SWEATY FEET

Sweating is completely normal and is important for heat regulation, excreting water and salts, and also to protect the skin from germs and keep the skin supple and hydrated.

There are conditions wherein excessive sweating in the feet can be a symptom, such as: Diabetes, Obesity, strenuous activity and Plantar Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweatiness, specifically in the feet)- Hyperhidrosis more generally is a condition that effects approximately 5% of the world population. This condition can be quite isolating as the person suffering from it may avoid social interaction due to embarrassment. Specifically in terms of Plantar Hyperhidrosis, one of the symptoms can be a strong odour. There are various treatments available for this, such as changing insoles in shoes and using deodorants specifically for the feet which may provide a temporary benefit. However, a podiatrist may be able to offer a more permanent solution.
